Summer is Going, Going, Gone!
This was our summer of Go, Go, Go! And now it is going, going, gone! We have been doing Dutton Day Camp for the past two months (on and off) with a couple weeks of no camp since I had to be out of town for church girls' camp and my family reunion. Throughout the summer we have had six weeks of the Dutton Day Camp. Typically the hours were Mon,Tue,Thurs & Friday from 12 noon till 4 pm - except on the days we ended up being gone till 5 or 6. I am lucky that the parents were willing to be flexible with me since my time planning did not usually allow for the unexpected mishaps which sometimes would occur. (like getting a bit lost, extra potty breaks, traffic jams etc.) It was a learning experience for all of us, especially for me since I used this summer as a pilot program for the "Kids on the Go" day camp that I have been dreaming up for a few years now. I've learned much about what works, and what does not work with a group of 12 - 15 kids. But, mostly I have learned that if kids are engaged in new experiences and learning new things, then behavior problems are very minimal. We had very few issues with behavior considering the types of field trips we attempted. Overall, Dutton Day Camp was a very good experience for all the kids, teens and grown-ups who participated in it. I decided to start a blog to record what we did each week, and to post the pictures for the Duttons, Wrights and Arambulos to see what their kids were up to this summer.
